Submitting Digital Images
for Jurying with the Guild
We are again accepting digital images for jurying (for shows or juried status). The choice is still yours but if you submit slides you will need to pay a processing fee as we are viewing all applicants images through a digital projection system. We are trying to be as flexible as possible as the world around us and we move to digital. Here are the detailed instructions:
To Submit Digital Images As the world goes digital there are multiple competing systems being proposed. The winner (if there ever is one) is not clear at this point; therefore, we are not ready to tie ourselves to one system. Here are some options for you, both of which will be acceptable.
{Example of How Images are Viewed} • If you already have images in the Zapplication® format you may submit them; however, they must be sent to us on a CD as jpg or jpeg files. We are not signing up for the Zapplication® program so you cannot have them transmit the images to us. Those images are 1920 x 1920 pixels in size with black filling in the sides or top and bottom of rectangular images. • You may also submit images that are a minimum of 700 pixels on the long side up to a maximum of 1920 pixels on the long side -- no need to make them square by filling in with black like is required by Zapplication® -- we will put them on a black background -- but if they are square that is OK too. But do not put any colored border or any other distracting feature into your images. Our option spans the space between Juried Art Services (which requires 700 pixels [it recommends 1400 pixels] on the long side--no borders) and Zapplication®. Again your images should be saved as high quality jpgs or jpegs and sent to us on a CD.
Files of your images should be named LastnameFirstName01.jpg (For example, SmithJohn01.jpg. Use 01-05 to match your description on the application.) Burn all five images onto a CD-ROM, name it “LastnameFirstname2010.” Write this on the CD with a felt tip pen. CDs are not returned. Adjustment of your images to fit within the above limits can easily be accomplished using a program like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements; however several other programs let you adjust image size and save them as jpegs. For example in Photoshop go to Image --> Image Size. Make sure you have checked 'Constrain Proportions" and 'Resample Image' and then set the Pixel Dimensions. Click OK and do a 'Save As' using jpeg format. To Submit 35 mm Slides
You may still submit 35 mm slides. However, you are required to pay a $5/slide scanning fee. An additional $5 per CD fee may be purchased if you wish to receive your scanned images on disc. No special preparation is necessary for slides other than having your name listed.
